Waiting Lists
Valuable Information for those on Council waiting lists for housing
All Local Authorities have a housing register which lists names of people who qualify for housing within the Authority. Schemes for allocating properties vary according to the Local Authority in question but the following are considered priority cases:
- When the individual is living in overcrowded conditions
- When the individual is living in unsanitary conditions
- When the individual has dependent children
- When the individual has special needs due to illness or disability
The Advice Centre strongly recommends that individuals contact the Local Authority and make sure that they are aware of any special needs or if circumstances within their families change due to illness, or additions to the family. For further in-depth information about re-housing and council lists please arrange for an appointment with an adviser at the Advice Centre.
It is important to note that social landlords usually follow a strict policy of not transferring tenants who have rent arrears.
